Adult autism diagnosis

Sushie has worked as a diagnostician in adult autism for the NHS since 2015. She is trained in DISCO, ADI-R and ADOS 2. Sushie is also trained to level one in sensory integration (SI).

Assessment usually takes between three and six hours, and involves interviewing the client and if possible family members or others who are able to provide information about childhood development as well as present abilities and difficulties functioning in daily life.

The assessment will generate a comprehensive report including recommendations of the support that should be provided and guidance on strategies for managing the condition.

Please note, that Benefits Agencies or Local Authorities may not recognise a private diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Please check beforehand if a private assessment is acceptable for the purposes required.

Signs of possible ASD include

  • difficulties communicating across a range of situations

  • problems making friends and understanding social norms

  • repetitive, routinized behaviour and language

  • problems understanding and managing emotions

  • problems managing sensory input
